City of Kwekwe Mayor, Cllr Albert Zinhanga has expressed confidence in six local FootGolf players who are part of the Zimbabwe national team heading to the FootGolf Africa Nations Championships set for Victoria Falls from 22 to 25 November 2025.

The send-off ceremony was held in Kwekwe today, where the mayor addressed journalists before the team’s departure.

The Kwekwe delegation — Washington Maxwell Moyo, Diniwe Beauty Dube, Emmanuel Rwodzi, Michael Takudzwa Moyo, Kudakwashe Zacharia and Linda Wasara — will join other national team members for the continental tournament to be staged at Elephant Hills Golf Course.

Six countries are expected to compete: South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Germany, Slovenia and Morocco.

Mayor Zinhanga said the city was proud to have local athletes selected to represent the country at such a high-level competition.

“Firstly, I would like to say as Kwekwe, we are excited and very, very happy that we have got a group of youngsters led by former Councillor Moyo who are going to represent the nation at the FootGolf African Championships,” he said.

He added that their participation placed Kwekwe on the regional sporting map.

“As Kwekwe, we are very proud in the sense that when the team wins, they are not only winning for Kwekwe but also for the nation. It is also a chance that those who excel might go on to represent Africa in the upcoming FootGolf World Championship,” he said.

Zinhanga urged the players to give their best performance in Victoria Falls.

“We are happy; let them go and represent the city well so that we will celebrate when they come back. To the team, I want to say go and represent us well. We are behind you, we are rallying for your success and we will be waiting to receive the trophies on your way back,” he said.

The tournament is expected to draw international attention as FootGolf continues to grow across Africa.
