Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Marian Chombo, has commended the ongoing construction of a police post in Raffingora, saying it will enhance security and support government’s devolution agenda.

Chombo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Zvimba North, said the project was an example of community-driven development in line with the national vision of leaving “no one and no place behind.”

“The establishment of this police post is not only about law enforcement, but also about strengthening governance and service delivery at the local level. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo – our people are taking the lead in building their communities,” she said.

The project is being spearheaded by Chief Katizagombo, local leaders, and community members, with support from the Zimbabwe Republic Police. Officer-in-Charge Raffingora, Inspector Season Chokera, said the facility was urgently needed to address rising crime in the area.

“We do not have adequate facilities to effectively manage crime. This post will provide cells, offices and resources necessary for us to maintain law and order,” she said.

Makonde District Police Chief Superintendent Agnes Robert welcomed the initiative, noting that it aligned with the government’s Vision 2030. “The project demonstrates how communities can work with government structures to build lasting solutions to their challenges,” she said.

Local leaders have appealed for more support, particularly in mobilising resources and equipment to speed up the construction process. Chief Katizagombo urged potential partners and investors to assist, while Chairman Allen Masuku highlighted the need for transport to ease delivery of building materials.

Community members said they expected the police post to improve safety, reduce crime, and create a stronger foundation for local development.
