Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube says business proceeded as normal across the province today despite calls for nationwide street protests.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a fundraising event for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) towards construction of new Mbizo Police Station in Kwekwe, Ncube said residents across Midlands had continued with their daily activities.
“From Gokwe North to Mberengwa, today was a normal working day where people disregarded some elements who were calling for demonstrations in our province and in our country,” he said.
Ncube said the situation, in his view, reflected public confidence in the country’s leadership.
“This is a clear indication that the people of Midlands and Zimbabwe have got faith with our President, Comrade Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, as these people have failed dismally,” he said.
Authorities had maintained a visible security presence in parts of the country ahead of the planned demonstrations, while Government officials had previously urged citizens to continue with their normal activities.
The planned protests had been publicised on social media, with organisers calling for citizens to demonstrate over governance and economic issues.
